General Submission Requirements

  • Ideally, submitted work should have some connection to Texas. Literally, figuratively, conceptually, coincidentally — any connection is fine. Just give us a little Texas if possible, please.
  • Submissions are open to women+ writers in or from Texas.
The term “women+” refers to a spectrum of gender identification that includes women, non-binary identifiers and trans women.
  • We LOVE comedies. We’re not exclusively accepting comedies, but we really, really like them.

Special Requirements for Play submissions

These special requirements apply only to play submissions.

  • Playwrights must be active ScriptWorks members in order to submit a play for this show.
  • We’re looking for scripts that can be adapted to an audio-only production. We won’t be reading stage directions, so all action must be obvious via dialogue and sound effects. If your script isn’t in audio format, we can help adapt it!
  • Playwrights may also submit work in other genres.

About the Show

Lone Star Plays: An Audio Rodeo is a round-up of creative work by women+ writers across the state of Texas.

It’s Texan writers sharing Texas-themed work, produced by a Texan-owned production company, and recorded deep in the heart of Austin, Texas.

Sounds like a lot of Texas in one show?

Texas waffle - iykykDamn right. Texans love our state! Heck, we even eat waffles in the shape of our state. No one else does that — except for Colorado, but I don’t think they’re doing it on purpose. We’re pretty obsessed with our curves.

So, why produce a Texas themed show right now?

About that. We’ll be the first to admit that our governor is mean, our senators are unlikable, we’re attracting lots of billionaire tech bros, and that our state has been getting attention for all the wrong reasons lately — but it’s also a beautiful, diverse place, filled with some of the best people on this planet — and gosh darn it, it’s only fair that the rest of the country knows we’re here too.

Why is this show only for women+ writers?

Being a woman in Texas is challenging for a lot of reasons — especially with our current leadership. Rights that we have long taken for granted are continually under attack and more and more of our personal freedoms are being chipped away all the time. Women have been a vital part of Texas’ history and it owes much of its current cultural importance to the women who have given so much of themselves to the development of this great state. They deserve a show.

So, we humbly invite you to submit your work and join us this May for a hilarious, touching, and cruelty-free rodeo that highlights some of the kind-hearted and immensely creative people that call this state home. We promise you there’s more of us than there are of them.

Yee-haw!
